Julie and Julia (Monday, October 12, 2009 / 8:48 PM)

Ever had a disastrous cooking experience? I sure did! HAHA, manymany times in fact. Guess I havent got my mum's genes- the flair for cooking!

But I suppose writing about my favourite cooking experience would be more interesting since, my best cooking experiences were spent together with my boyfriend! :D Moreover, he is out of town till this Sunday. :(

Well, in the past few months, we spent quite a fair amount of time in the kitchen together. It was really fun even though we got ourselves soaked in perspiration at the end of it. If I am right, the first dish we ever made together was Sukiyaki (Japanese hotpot/something).

It was really fun, and we even had it on 2 consecutive days! The first day was more of to test out, and the following day was more of to really enjoy the food. we even made a video on it. He being he chef, and me being the assistant.

Truth be told, he is a way better cook than I am, much as I dont want to admit it. HAHA, but he's really humble about it. Good or bad?

Anyway, so we went to Medi-ya to get the groceries, and the groceries there are so much more expensive than those in NTUC. We agreed on the fact that its all because of the "Made in Japan" tag. HAHA, but its kinda funny cause we stay in the west and Medi-ya is like more of central? We have to travel all the way there just to get groceries, and its like baby dont complains about it at all even though he is the one driving.

In fact, I was the one asking him why he want to tak e so much trouble to go all the way there. He says "If you wanna cook, then might as well use the best ingredients and the more authentic ones?"

Love the way he thinks. HAHA, anyway, so yeah. In actual fact, the preparation of the ingredients was more tedious than the cooking itself because you dont really need to cook at all. Just need to soak the food in the boiling sauce to cook them. And we really loved the "Ito Konnyaku".

Well, all in all, we had so much fun. And this ignited so much more cooking subsequently. Its really a good bonding exercise, provided you dont fight over anything. HAH.
